An Uber-style app that lets hospitals summon nearby biomedical engineers the moment critical equipment fails.

iOS · Android · WebPlatforms

Project Summary

  • Client: All Trusted Med
  • Industry: healthcare
  • My role: Lead Developer & Product Designer
  • Core tasks: Product & UX design, Mobile apps (iOS & Android), Web app, Dispatch workflow
  • Appointed date: Jul 2021
  • Completion: Dec 2021

When an oxygen concentrator, patient monitor or X-ray machine breaks, a hospital can't wait for a technician to turn up next week, because patients are waiting. Yet most facilities had no quick way to find a qualified biomedical engineer nearby. All Trusted Med brought me in to help build Africare and close that gap.

The problem

  • Long equipment downtime. Broken devices sat idle for days while hospitals hunted for someone to fix them.
  • Fragmented supply. Skilled biomedical engineers existed, but hospitals couldn't find or vet them quickly.
  • No visibility. There was no request tracking, no service history and no accountability.

What I built

  • Hospital app. Raise a repair request in a few taps with the device, fault, urgency and location.
  • Engineer app. Nearby engineers receive the job, accept it and head out, posting status updates along the way.
  • Live job tracking. Both sides watch each request move from requested to accepted, en route, in progress and resolved.
  • Web platform. An admin and hospital-facing web app, plus the marketing website.

Under the hood

Africare uses a dispatch model: requests are matched to available engineers by location and specialty, and every status change is pushed to both parties in real time. Firebase provides authentication, the real-time data layer and push notifications, so both apps stay in sync without a custom server fleet. One cross-platform codebase ships to both iOS and Android.

The result

Africare launched on both the App Store and Google Play, giving hospitals an on-call bench of biomedical engineers and cutting the time critical equipment spends out of service.
