Mawazo (Swahili for "thoughts") started as an experiment. What if there were a place like Quora, Reddit or Medium, but anonymous and without the toxicity? Somewhere to share an insight, get something off your chest, or simply ponder with the world.

What I built

  • Anonymous posting. Share without an identity attached, so the idea stands on its own.
  • Rich-text writing. A Quill-based editor for longer reflections.
  • Fast and discoverable. Server-side rendering with Angular Universal for quick loads and search indexing, plus offline support through a service worker.
  • Multilingual-ready. Internationalisation built in from the start.

Under the hood

I started from an open-source Angular and Firebase forum and adapted it into Mawazo, with NGXS for state, ng-zorro for UI and AngularFire for data and auth, all deployed on Firebase.

Where it stands

Mawazo remains a personal sandbox for ideas about healthier online communities.
